Fallen Officer Foundation
The Fallen Officer Foundation is close to our hearts.
It was founded in 2004, in response to a horrific accident that left Captain Robert Jones of the UCSC Police Department severely injured. He was riding his new road bike on Hwy 1 when he was struck by a SUV driven by a young teenage girl who drifted onto the shoulder when she looked away to adjust her stereo.
Not expected to survive, he remained in a coma three months. He finally regained conscientiousness and his wife brought him home where she provided him around the clock care.
It was because of Robert that a group of his friends in law enforcement and fire service put together what is now the Fallen Officer Foundation. They raised funds for a vehicle that could transport Robert as well as funds to help with his 24 hour care. Robert did make progress, slowly and against all odds. Unfortunately, he lost his valiant struggle to survive his injuries and succumbed in March of 2007.
The Fallen Officer Foundation is a non-profit organization that continues to come to the aid of First Responders and their families in time of need, providing ongoing support and financial assistance to Santa Cruz County First Responders and their families during times of crisis and special need. The Capitola Foundation is honored to give them our spiritual and financial support.
